Milan Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2010: Gucci, Prada, Bottega Veneta - The Heavyweights

Gucci

Frida Giannini's more 'mature' collection for Gucci (as she put it herself) had some great pieces, with beautiful neutrals and slightly longer hemlines; the coats were my favourite pieces of this collection:

Prada

Miuccia Prada revisited Prada's strengths in her A/W'10 collection, working with double-face cashmere into flattering dance-skirted fifties-sixties dresses and skirts, detailed jackets and coats with double-layered collars of cable knit and fur, cut A-line skirts in patent leather, and reprising her signature scratchy-grid print, and knitwear, made into tweedy peacoat-ed suits and chunky belted sweaters. I absolutely love the black coat, smothered with jet embroidery, and once again, the coats (and/or coat-dresses) were my favourites for this collection:

Bottega Veneta

Bottega Veneta's collection had a more modern touch than recent collections, with narrow, businesslike tailoring; fluid jersey dresses and sporty parkas; finishing with a blast of candy-pink silk. The pieces were subtle yet strong, fluid asymmetries and variety: semi-draped dresses, jumpsuits, A-line T-shirt tunics, gorgeous yet simple trouser suits, and a couple of teddy-bear coats. This collection by Tomas Maier seemed a more 'practical' one:
