David Szeto Spring/Summer 2011: Liberté - Pt 3

David Szeto

Spring Summer 2011

Collection: Liberté

Brilliant Tailoring

Large silver zippers are used as a main part of the design in this dress. This dress is almost a banana peel, if you unzipped all the zippers you'd be exposed. Zipped, this dress is a simple shift. The leather collars around the edge can be thought of as petals….How brilliant!

How beautiful is that curved & ruched hem?

I love the draped lapels that disappear into the side pockets of this dress...

The neck detail on this is subtle yet effective...

David Szeto Spring/Summer 2011: Liberté - Pt 2

Draped Dresses

This is my favourite dress of this collection, a classic David Szeto design (I recently bought a similar Szeto dress in a beautiful bottle green) beautifully reinvented. The ruched gathers at the shoulder can be folded inwards towards the sleeve for a shoulder pad effect or outwards to add a cascade of ruffles a the neckline. I particularly love the bold graphic 'middle' contrasting the rest of the dress so beautifully and pulled together with a tan leather belt. The red & purple colour combination in particular...so vibrant & fresh!

So simple and beautiful...

Twisted shoulder straps and hand tucked pleats...

Different fabric makes this dress so different from the same design in the silver lame above. I am partial to this one more due to the beautiful bold graphic in the middle once again.

David Szeto describes this dress as one of the most complex dresses he's made; Draped side hip "ruched flower" sleeveless dress, the flower is draped into the pattern and ruched by hand. This is another dress he labels as having a great cut for curves - brilliant!

Draped in wool voile...

Beautifully Twisted

David Szeto's SS'11 collection comprises of classic easy pieces in navy, cream, beige, grey and black, reliable basics with his signature hand finished details, silks cut into simple and sometime complex pieces that Szeto has become known for. This time new details include detachable leather neck collars, cuffs and belts, giving a slight contrast and edge to the feminine silhouettes.

Pt 1 - Tessa Dress & Top

Love the double-zip detailing and adjustable tie detail at the shoulder. David Szeto says this dress best on slightly curvatious silhouettes. HIP HIP HOORAY!

I love it in this black & white striped version, although it looks gorgeous in a solid colour as well.

Or in this gorgeous blue honeycomb knit - in a top version.

Ah, the stripes also come in the top version! Can I please have one of each?

Shop at Brigadeiro's: David Szeto One-Shoulder Dress

Shop at Brigadeiro's

David Szeto
One-Shoulder Sequin Dress

RRP £915.00 - Sell for £250

Brand new, never worn.

Black one-shouldered sequin dress and slips on over the head. A knot detail sits on the left shoulder, the right is bare. Draped neckline, simple yet so elegant. White sequins trim the wrap front. The hemline falls above the knee. Currently on sale for £460.00 at Browns Fashion (this size is no longer available).

I have previously expressed my love for David Szeto's designs (here). I recently went on a David Szeto 'spree'. Having bought one too many dresses that were too small, and having a particularly 'fat day', I bought this dress in two sizes (having finally learn my lesson, I bought bigger than my usual size), and have decided to keep the smaller size of the two, although I could get away with either, due to the flexible sizing of this dress. It is meant to be worn drapey and fairly loosely around the body (as shown on the mannequin), and is so flattering! I plan on wearing mine in the evening with heels, or with a striped/plain tee and leggings during the day.

FR size 40

Recent Buy: David Szeto - and Happy Gleekend!

I know, I know...not the most practical blouse to purchase whilst nursing, but sometimes a girl just needs something pretty...and this is certainly that: the gorgeous silk charmeuse, the puffed sleeves, the camelia folded silk 'corsage' as part of the blouse...like I have said before: David Szeto is genius!

As a 'Gleek', I thought I would share some of my favourite songs from the show:

David Szeto - The Quiet Genius

Canadian Paris-based designer David Szeto studied at FIT before he launched his collection in 1993; and only presented on the Paris runway in 2006. Known for understated designs and signature draping, David shies away from publicity and lets his talent speak for itself with beautiful, original creations, soft and whimsical yet contemporary. . . characterized by his signature Vionnet-inspired draping and intricate cuts, superior smocking and for twisting malleable, soft fabrics to create elegant forms.

I only discovered the quiet genius David Szeto (self-described designer, photographer, stylist & consultant) a few years ago, and was absolutely devastated when I hesitated a few hours too long to snap up this stunning draped dress (alas it was the last one!)

However, I am absolutely rapt to have this Navy Wool/Silk coat dress in my wardrobe:

David Szeto's stunning pieces exude a quiet power, with beautiful attention to detail, like the ruffles on a dress, the soft hand tied bow, or the lushness of a coat that draws you into each collection.

His A/W 2008 breathtakingly beautiful collection was inspired by and named after one of my favourite movies (for its fashion): 'In the Mood for Love'. Funnily, it was only recently, after years of admiring David's work, that I discovered that he is of Chinese heritage...
